Two kinds of errors
- Corrected errors — mistakes you noticed and fixed. They cost you time and reduce your accuracy percentage, but not your net WPM.
- Uncorrected errors — mistakes left in the final text. Each one reduces your net WPM by a word per minute.
How accuracy is calculated
Accuracy = correct characters ÷ total typed characters × 100. Every key you press counts, so a mistake you later deleted still counts against accuracy. This gives a truer picture of how precisely you type.
Building accuracy
Slow down by about 10% and aim for 98% or higher. Accuracy Training won't let you continue until you type the correct character, which quickly breaks the habit of rushing ahead.
Frequently asked questions
- What is a good typing accuracy?
- 95% is a common minimum for office work, and 97–98% or higher is preferred for customer-facing or data-heavy roles.
- Why is my accuracy lower than I expected?
- Typing Gauge counts every incorrect keystroke, including ones you deleted. If you make and fix lots of small mistakes, your accuracy will reflect that.
