What this policy covers

"Cookies" here means cookies and similar technologies, such as browser local storage, that store or read information on your device. Under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) we must tell you what we use and ask for your consent unless an exception applies.

These are needed for things you ask us to do. They can't be switched off on our site.

Usage statistics (on by default, you can object)

We count anonymous events such as "test completed" to understand and improve Typing Gauge. The Data (Use and Access) Act 2025 allows this without prior consent, as long as the information is used only to improve our service, we tell you clearly, and you can object easily and for free. We never share it with advertisers or use it for advertising.

NameTypePurposeHow long
tg_visitorLocal storageRandom identifier for counting returning visitors and repeat testsUntil you clear it or opt out

To object, turn off Usage statistics on Privacy choices. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, statistics are off automatically. If we enable Plausible Analytics, it is cookieless and stores nothing on your device.

Our guides, FAQ and landing pages show ads from Google AdSense. On your first visit, Google's consent message (a Google-certified consent tool that uses the IAB Transparency & Consent Framework) asks whether Google and its partners may use cookies to personalise ads. If you decline, Google may still show non-personalised or limited ads, using cookies only where you allow it, for purposes such as frequency capping, fraud prevention and measurement.

Google may change these names. For the current list and how Google uses information from sites that use its services, see Google's advertising policies and how Google uses partner sites' data. You can also opt out of personalised advertising at adssettings.google.com and youronlinechoices.eu.

No ads or advertising scripts are loaded on tests, results, certificates, verification, sign-in, dashboards, employer and candidate assessment pages, the contact form or our legal pages.

Changing your choices

  • Use Privacy choices (linked at the bottom of every page) to change advertising consent or turn off statistics.
  • You can also delete cookies and local storage in your browser settings. Doing so signs you out and removes results stored only on your device.
